How to Spring Clean Your Kitchen
The change in season brings a new found energy after a slumberous winter. For many, it’s a time to do a thorough spring cleaning. Since the kitchen is the center of most homes, it makes it a prime room to start a deep clean of. Countertops are hopefully wiped down every time that you cook and floors are cleaned every two weeks or so, but what about the crevices of your cupboards? When was the last time you cleaned your oven? An overhaul of your kitchen may seem an intimidating task, but by spacing it out step-by-step you can reset your most valued room in no time.
Start With the Refrigerator
Begin by emptying the contents of the fridge. It’s helpful to have a large trashcan nearby so you can toss any items that are taking up valuable space and have exceeded their expiration date, and are moldy and inedible. Next, place the remaining items on the counter and begin washing the interior of the fridge with hot soapy water. Be sure to scrub the drawers and hard to reach areas thoroughly. Arrange the items together neatly in the fridge and then clean and polish the exterior.

Wipe down the microwave and stove from the inside out with the appropriate cleaner. Run self-cleaning cycle on oven. While that is happening, clean and polish small countertop appliances. Clean any small appliances that live on the countertop like the toaster, blender or coffee machine and put them back in place. Keep a toothbrush handy to scrub away at any tough spots without harming the surface.

Countertops and Cabinets
Remove countertop appliances and use a diluted solution of water and mild dish soap to wipe clean. Remove everything from inside the cabinet and begin grouping like items on the kitchen floor. Discard any junk items, such as a lid without a matching container or pot. Set aside any unwanted or extra kitchen tools that may be donated.
Empty cabinets of dishes, pots and pans, appliances and don't forget your silverware/gadget drawers. Wipe inside with soapy water. Don’t forget to clean silverware holders or other organizational tools that tend to get really grimy. If your flatware or dishes are looking less than spotless, run a load in the dishwasher before returning it all neatly to the clean cupboards.

This is a two-step process. Using short cycles, first, run the dishwasher with a cup of vinegar. Next, sprinkle ¼ cup baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher and run a short cycle again. The vinegar and baking soda combined will help to clean out any food particles and leave it smelling fresh and clean.

Trash and Recycling
Take out the trash and recycling and wash the bins with warm soapy water. Leave them outside turned upside down to dry. Remove all products under your sink and take stock. Throw away any empties or products you no longer want or use.
Sweep the floor or use the vacuum to remove debris. Use the crevice tool to clean in small spaces like the gaps between the countertop and the oven or behind the fridge. Wipe down baseboards with a microfiber cloth and warm soapy water. Mop or scrub the floor. Remember to work strategically from the far corner toward the door, so you can leave the room without tracking footprints across your spotless floor.
