Homemade Pizza with Monte's Fine Food
Steve is the owner of Portland’s newest food establishment, Monte’s Fine Foods on Washington Avenue. For Steve, being in the food business runs in the family. His father owned Quattrucci’s Hilltop Market in the 70’s and 80’s and his grandfather Monte, for whom the business is named, used to bring him to Angelone’s, the former pizza place in the location which was originally a gas station. Now Monte’s is beautiful, spic & span, with a variety of imported foods and home-made baked goods on the shelves. Their pizza is out of this world; literally a Roman style pizza known as a Pinsa. Pinsa is an ancient multigrain Roman flatbread that was originally served in the taverns around ancient Rome. Steve will bring his baker, Pamela Fitzpatrick along with him to show students how the dough is made and the secret to making some of the best new pizza in town.
